In accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control's asbestos program, Mavo Systems, Inc. offers an asbestos disposal service for homeowners. While we
do not offer home abatement services, if you have removed materials containing or contaminated with asbestos from your home, Mavo Systems will properly dispose of the debris at an approved landfill.
The following guidelines must be followed to ensure safe handling and disposal:
1. Ensure all materials containing or contaminated with asbestos are sufficiently wet.
2. All materials must be sealed in a 6-mil layer or bag of polyethylene plastic. Bags must then be securely goose-necked and duct taped closed. If you are using plastic sheets, make sure all seams are fully sealed with duct tape.
3. Next, repeat the above process, sealing the packaged materials in another 6-mil layer or bag of poly plastic and securely duct taping all openings.
4. Fiber drums: If using fiber drums, the asbestos-containing and/or asbestos-contaminated materials must be sealed in polyethylene as indicated above before placing in fiber drums. We cannot accept any contaminated materials in plastic or metal drums.
5. No other debris can be included in with the asbestos debris (eg. aerosol cans, paint cans, paint rags). This type of debris is considered hazardous and should be taken to your county recycling facility.
6. Make sure the outside of bags and packages are clean of any asbestos-contaminated materials.
7. When you have finished containing the contaminated materials, securely tape a piece of paper to each bag or package that includes the following information:
- Your name
- Your address
- The date you dropped the materials off at Mavo Systems
* Keep track of the number of bags and/or packages you are bringing
to Mavo Systems as you will need that quantity for completing a "waste manifest" later in the process.
8. Call ahead to schedule your delivery to ensure that our warehouse staff is available to transfer your drop-off into our locked holding bin, which is enclosed in a secure, fenced area.
9. After unloading your vehicle, you are required to fill out a simple "waste manifest." You will receive a copy as soon as our holding bin is full and its contents are transported to an approved landfill.
10. Pay the warehouse attendant - cash only please.
If the above procedures are not followed, Mavo Systems reserves the right to refuse your bags, barrels or packages for disposal.
